SAN FRANCISCO -- Advancing the health of the health care system is the mission of McKesson, and at the core of that mission is the success of the company's customers, says chairman and chief executive officer John Hammergren.

"We have constantly looked for ways to evolve to serve our customers and address their business and clinical challenges, often in ways they may not have expected or anticipated but had a great desire for," states Hammergren. "The key to our success is defining our strategy by our customers' needs rather than by our own desires."

Fulfilling customers' needs has enabled McKesson to become not only the largest drug distributor in the world, but also the largest health care information technology provider. "We work from the outside in listening to our customers first and only winning when our customers win," says Hammergren. "As a result we've developed great strategic relationships and a loyal customer base."
