Olicom Wins Contract from Plante & Moran, LLP for First-of-a-Kind Network Connectivity Solution.

DALLAS, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1996--

Accounting Firm's Field Force Gains "Anytime-Anywhere"

Network Access

Olicom (NASDAQ: OLCMF), a leading international supplier of high-performance networking solutions, today announced that Michigan-based Plante & Moran, LLP, one of the country's 15 largest accounting firms, has purchased more than 500 Olicom GoCard TRN/Modem 336 "combo" PC Cards. This agreement provides Plante & Moran's field auditors with previously unattainable network connectivity options.

Plante & Moran accountants working in the field will use the GoCard TRN/Modem 336 to facilitate dial-in network access for file transfers, E-mail and overall information sharing between remote locations throughout Michigan and Ohio, and the firm's Token-Ring WAN, a capability that Plante & Moran previously did not have.

"The GoCard TRN/Modem 336 will be a great help to our staff and assist them in providing better, more effective client service," said Brian Prascius, Plante & Moran's Director of Network Resources. He added, "When the GoCards are installed, our auditors visiting client sites will be able to respond quickly to situations that arise in the field by connecting to our network and searching our knowledge base for answers to client questions. This will be a great help to us in terms of increasing the efficiency of our financial statement preparation and review process."

The GoCard TRN/Modem 336, a multi-function Type II PC (PCMCIA) add-in PC card, is the first in the industry capable of delivering Token-Ring connectivity while simultaneously providing both a 33.6 kbps fax/modem capability (the industry's fastest), and the ability to send and receive data via cellular networks.

By combining the functionality of a Token-Ring LAN adapter and a fully featured high-speed fax/modem with cellular support, this "combo" card addresses the needs of Plante & Moran's mobile notebook users for "anytime-anywhere" access to the company's knowledge-sharing network.

In addition to providing a modem-only function for dial up and fax connections when individuals are away from the office, the GoCard TRN/Modem 336 allows simultaneous operation of LAN adapter and fax/modem functions for the in-office environment.

"We've had a four-year relationship with Olicom in which they have supplied all of our Token-Ring network connectivity solutions," Prascius said. "The quality and value of the company's products - as well as the level of technical cooperation and support they have provided - has always been outstanding. We are looking to the GoCard as a solution that will significantly advance our position in the knowledge-sharing arena."

The GoCard TRN/Modem 336 compliments Olicom's existing 14.4 Token-Ring combo card, a lower speed solution designed for LAN users who require only occasional modem access and is priced accordingly. The new 33.6 kbps combo card is designed for mobile users, such as field sales and service personnel, whose productivity depends on high-speed remote access. In these cases, the high performance of the GoCard TRN/Modem 336 provides a payoff in terms of shorter total connection times.

"This deal builds upon a long-standing track record with Plante & Moran in cost-effectively addressing their networking hardware needs," said Bob Cicciarella, Olicom's Director of Marketing. "Plante & Moran's large-scale field implementation of Olicom's GoCards represents a quickly growing need among large organizations for flexible access to the corporate network, and underscores Olicom's ability to effectively address a rapidly changing networking environment."

The GoCard TRN/Modem 336 Cards (OC-3232) are shipped with Delrina WinFAX Lite and WinComm Lite software for faxing and terminal communications. CompuServe client software is also included and offers free, limited-time Internet access.
